Like many artists of his generation Stokoe was powerfully influenced by the work of American abstract artists in the 1960s who exploited the properties of colour, particularly the optical effects of certain juxtapositions and the interplay between colour and form. 'Night Rings' shows Stokoe exploring these themes, using the screenprint technique which lends itself to the creation of hard-edge areas of colour.
