Spring Cycle by Noel Dyrenforth
|
This is one of very few items of textile art in the collection. It was originally purchased for the collection of Coventry College of Education where weaving and textile printing were once part of the art and design curriculum. This piece made in the 1970s, is an early example of Dyrenforth’s modernist take on the ancient process of batik, freely departing from traditional motifs and patterns in abstract, expressive designs. Subsequently he has pushed the boundaries of the craft further, creating a new visual language for batik printing.
