Patrick Procktor was born in London and attended the Slade School of Art in 1958.

Procktor has experimented with many artistic styles and techniques including watercolour, oil painting and printmaking. He has also worked as a set and costume designer for theatrical productions.

In this work he uses soft pastel colours to convey a scene of tranquillity and warmth.
We see the garden from above possibly through a split pane window. This composition creates a sense of looking from an interior space into the garden beyond.
