Ronald Rutherford
Ronald Kerr Rutherford
Born 1923 in Banstead, Surrey UK. Died Sussex in 2004.
At the age of eighteen Rutherford went to Estonia where he studied German, he also spent a day a week in the studio of A Russian icon painter where he learned the rudiments of painting. On his return to England he trained at the Architectural Association in London, subsequently practicing as an architect, first in London and then in Rhodesia. He came back to England in 1958 and eventually retired from architecture in 1973 to concentrate on painting. For the next fifteen years he lived in the picturesque coastal town of Southwold in Suffolk where its buildings, beach and harbour were the subject of many paintings in oil and watercolour.
