Wren, Rosemary

Born: 1922. Nationality: British.

 

Rosemary Wren was born in Oxshott, Surrey, daughter of the potter and textile designer Denise Wren who founded the Oxshott Pottery.  Rosemary studied at Guildford School of Art and after World War II, when she served in the Women's Land Army, she began work at the family pottery.  In 1970 she took over Oxshott Pottery with her partner Peter Cotty; they later moved it to Devon (1978) and then Scotland (1989).

Roemary Wren became the first Chair of The Craft Potters' Association in 1958.

As well as her handmade stoneware vessels, she was also known for her studies of birds and figures.
