Born 1941, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire.
Simon Lewty attended Mid-Warwickshire College in Leamington Spa and Hornsey College of Art. From 1964-81 he taught at Mid-Warwickshire College. He has exhibited at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, 1984, the Serpentine Gallery, London, 1985, and at the Anne Berthoud Gallery in 1987. He selected the exhibition Chosen Objects for Birmingham City Museums and Art Galleries in 1989 and was included in the South Bank/Common Ground touring exhibition Tree of Life in 1989-1990. The Mead Gallery staged a solo exhibition in 1992.
His has an idiosyncratic style, a mixture of visual symbolism and calligraphy rooted in the English medieval illumination and map making traditions. Lewty lives and works in Leamington Spa.
