The main feature of this drawing is the group of leafless winter trees which are enriched by a spectrum of colours running up the trunks and into the spiky branches. This use of colour contrasts markedly with the watery tones used for the cluster of houses beyond. The softening of colour means that the houses recede into the snowy background which in turn allows the trees to dominate the composition.
