The geometry of the circle forms a basic element in Islamic art; the intricate geometric patterning in the architecture and structural detailing of Islamic and Sufi mosques is designed to encourage feelings of centredness and tranquility. In this painting, inspired by the night sky, intricate geometric divisions of the circle, combined with sumptuous colouring, become stars which appear to pulsate.
