New Display for the Social Sciences Building
We have just installed a new display on the ground floor of the Social Sciences building.
We are currently on a mission to empty the Picture Store of everything that is suitable to go out on display and curation is becoming increasingly difficult, as we try to make interesting groups from the remaining works. However it does mean that artworks that may have been over looked for a while are finding new homes out and about on campus. One work that has been in store for a while due to its weight and size is Vertical Landscape by Norman Gibson. Norman Gibson worked as Director of the MA in Art and Design Education at the University for seven years, before moving to Manchester Metropolitan University. This set back space was perfect and seemed made for Vertical Landscape.
The display also includes a lithograph by the celebrated artist John Piper who's work was shown at the Mead Gallery here on campus in 2018.
