Warwick Wins Co-Creation Excellence and AI in Learning Excellence Awards at EchoExperience 2026

Warwick has picked up two awards at EchoExperience 2026: the Co-Creation Excellence Award for Digital Learning's collaboration with Echo360, and the AI in Learning Excellence Award, won by Dr Tom Ritchie for work spanning Warwick and Elon University on AI ethics and belonging.

EchoExperience 2026, held from 10–12 June 2026, brought together a global community of educators, innovators, industry leaders, and partners to explore the evolving landscape of education and workforce transformation. Hosted across the London School of Economics and Amazon Web Services, the event featured an engaging programme of presentations, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities focused on future-facing learning. Amongst the attendees from Warwick was Dr Tom Ritchie, who was a key speaker at the event.

Celebrating Collaboration and Innovation

Digital Learning works closely with Echo360, whose EchoVideo platform serves as the University's video management system. Installed in over 260 teaching spaces across campus, EchoVideo enables the capture, editing, and sharing of video content, with automated distribution via Moodle.

The awards ceremony took place in London's OXO Tower, where Paul Ottey, Faculty Consultant for Science, Engineering and Medicine, accepted the Co-Creation Excellence Award on behalf of the Digital Learning team. The recognition highlights the team's collaboration with Echo360 on two innovative co-creation initiatives.

The first was a student-focused Ideathon, which invited participants from across disciplines to develop creative solutions aimed at enhancing the lecture capture experience through EchoVideo. Building on the success of this initiative, a second event brought together staff for a creative problem-solving workshop, providing a valuable opportunity to share diverse perspectives and reimagine the use of Echo360's video technologies in teaching and learning.

Acknowledging the achievement, Paul said:

"This award is a testament to the power of collaboration between our staff, students, and partners. By bringing together diverse perspectives through initiatives like the Ideathon and staff workshops, we've been able to reimagine how lecture capture technology can support more engaging, inclusive learning experiences."

AI in Learning Excellence

A key theme throughout the event was the growing influence of artificial intelligence on both education and the workforce, with discussions emphasising the importance of maintaining human interaction to ensure the responsible and effective use of AI in appropriate contexts. It was in this space that Dr Tom Ritchie received the AI in Learning Excellence Award, for international work spanning Warwick and Elon University on AI ethics and belonging. As Tom was still in the US on his Fulbright placement at the time, the award was accepted on his behalf by colleague Dr Yanyan Li.

Reflecting on the recognition, Tom said:

"This award belongs as much to Elon as it does to Warwick. Everything that earned it was built across both."

Looking Ahead: AI and the Future of Learning

There was also significant focus on the changing nature of education at the event, particularly the rise of lifelong learning and increasing access to educational resources through digital platforms. These conversations reinforced the importance of innovation, inclusivity, and adaptability as institutions continue to evolve to meet the needs of learners.
