Enhancing Online Degree Delivery with Digital Learning Support

Background

As part of the development and delivery of a new online degree programme, Dr Charlotte Jones from the Centre for Lifelong Learning sought expert guidance to ensure the course met high standards in both pedagogy and digital delivery. David Voss, Faculty Advisor and our Learning Designers, Jath Pathmanathan and Nadine Stewart all played a pivotal role in this process.

Challenge

Transitioning to a fully online degree programme presented several challenges for the department:

  • Designing engaging and effective live online sessions
  • Structuring course content on Moodle
  • Ensuring pedagogical soundness in a digital environment
  • Building staff confidence in digital delivery

Solution

The support from Digital Learning had a transformative effect and through our guidance and support we helped to:

  • Increase confidence - Centre for Lifelong Learning staff felt reassured that their approaches were sound and aligned with best practices.
  • Improve course design - technical and pedagogical input led to a more coherent and engaging online learning environment
  • Provide responsive support - our team’s quick and thoughtful responses fostered a strong sense of collaboration and trust.

Testimonial of Dr Charlotte Jones

“David, Jath, and Nadine have been superb. They are always happy to help, very quick to respond to queries, and very reassuring. Their support has been vital in shaping our online degree and has made us feel fully supported throughout the process.

Their support has reassured me that our ideas are well-founded, but also that the challenges we face with online delivery are common challenges often faced by even the most experienced digital staff. I feel fully supported by these colleagues and am so appreciative of their time.”
