Toby Hyde - Estates
Interview with Toby Hyde, Apprentice Electrician - Estates
Tell us a bit about the type of work you’ve been doing?
I have been doing a range of electrical work such as repairing lighting, carrying out emergency lighting checks and fire alarm testing. I have also been involved in installation work, which I have found useful for my experience in electrical installation.
Why did you decide to become an apprentice?
I decided to become an apprentice because I wanted to get a trade qualification and felt an apprenticeship was the best way to get this.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship at Warwick?
I was looking for an apprenticeship on the apprenticeship.gov website and felt it would be a good place to work and progress in getting this qualification.
What’s been the highlight of your apprenticeship so far?
I was working on a building site last summer for 3 months rewiring Arthur Vick 3 Halls of Residence with external contractors from Gladdah Electrical and Shaylor Group. I really enjoyed it and felt I gained a lot of experience and confidence from my time on that project.
Tell us about your plans for the future?
It would be great to get a job here at the University once I have finished my apprenticeship.
What would you say to someone who was considering joining an apprenticeship?
Go for it!
