Student records (SITS:Vision)
Service description
The Student Records service is provided to the Academic Registrar's Office (mainly the Academic Office, Student Recruitment and Admissions Office and Management Information and Planning) to enable them to provide enquirer, applicant and student management services for the University.
IT Services hosts and supports the Student Records service which uses the application SITS:Vision.
Service Availability
The application and data is normally available 24/7, not withstanding periods of non-availability required for planned maintenance. Historic availability figures can be seen here. The application is supported during standard IT Services support hours. Maintenance takes place during support hours according to a planned schedule. This would be expected to include:-
- two application upgrades per year (expected to require a 3 to 4 day period of unavailability for each)
- quarterly operating system and database security patching (expected to require upto 1 day of unavailability for each)
- database upgrades as necessary
- application software supplier patches (containing either enhancements or bug fixes) applied as required, with the agreement of customer representatives. (Patches are issued on a weekly or multi-weekly basis and are normally non-disruptive.)
A regular system restart will be scheduled on a daily basis to ensure that any dynamic software changes are committed. This will necessitate the application being unavailable for less than 5 minutes.
Between 6:00pm and 07:00am the application and data operate at reduced performance due to the running of scheduled data maintenance.
