Moodle activity types
An activity is a general name for resources that enable or require interaction by participants. There are more than a dozen types of activities in Moodle.
Incorporating activities into your Moodle course can increase engagement and complement your face to face teaching, They can transform your Moodle course from a static content repository into an interactive learning environment.
Some features that appear in the activities list are not necessarily 'interactive' but because they are third-party tools that have been added to Warwick's Moodle appear as 'activities'.

How to add an activity
All of the activities below can be added to a Moodle course as follows:
- EnableEdit mode .
- Hover between existing activities or, from the bottom of a section, click theAdd contentbutton.
- ClickActivity or resource.
- Click the Activities tab to filter the activities from the resources.
- Click on the information icons to read descriptions of the activity types.
- You can also 'star' your favourite activities or resources to appear in your Starred tab to make them easier to find in future. Click the icon to favourite them.
- Click on the activity type you want to add.
- Follow the page instructions to add the activity settings.
Activity types
Below are the activity types available in Moodle at Warwick. Click each one to read a summary and get links to further information and guidance.
The assignment activity in Moodle allows students to submit work for grading and feedback. There are multiple submission types (files, text, Mahara portfolio, video) that Moodle can accept and students can submit as individuals or as part of a group.

Moodle is particularly efficient in handling group submissions. You must set up Moodle groups but then the assignment can accept submissions from one member on behalf of the other group members. Feedback only needs to be added once but is delivered to all group members.
