Coaching Professional Apprenticeship

Who is it for?

This Coaching Professional Level 5 Apprenticeship is open to staff from any role or level within the University. We have partnered with The OCM to deliever this programme.

To get the most out of the programme, you should:

  • Have the opportunity to coach others in your role

  • Be self-aware and committed to your own development

  • Be able to dedicate time each week to learning and practice

You’ll also need to be able to build strong coaching relationships and work effectively with a range of colleagues, including senior leaders.

Throughout the programme, you’ll develop practical coaching skills and a coaching mindset you can apply with individuals, teams, and peers. This not only supports your own development but also helps foster a coaching culture across the University.

What qualifications / accreditation will I get?

At completion you will get the following:

Level 5 Coaching Professional Qualification at the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) Practitioner Standard

  You have the opportunity to apply for membership of the EMCC. Professional registration is not included as part of the qualification.

 

How long is the programme?

This apprenticeship includes 308 hours of guided learning over 14 months, plus 3 months for the final assessment.

It's also available for part-time staff, with the length of the programme adjusted to match your working hours.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to be a UK citizen or meet the eligibility for funding, please refer to the funding criteria.

You need to have passed your probationary period at University of Warwick.

If you have a fixed term contract, your employment contract will need to be at least 18 months so it is longer than the duration of the apprenticeship.

Part time staff are encouraged to apply. It is worth noting that this would extend the duration of the programme to spread it over a longer time period.

How is the programme delivered?

The apprenticeship is blended and includes;

What will the programme involve?

The program takes a blended approach and includes:

Webinars

  • 7 live facilitated webinars and 3 pre-recorded webinars delivered throughout the programme.

Online Coaching Sessions

  • 9 one-to-one sessions with an external coach/mentor supervisor.

Coaching Practice

  • Coaching 4 clients: ideally 1 external and 3 internal in the first 6 months, then repeating the process in the second half of the programme.

Self-Managed Action Learning Sets

  • 4 sessions, each lasting 2 hours, run independently by learners.

Self-Assessment and Feedback

  • Online self-assessments and questionnaires.

  • 2 client feedback reports from individuals you've coached.

Reading

  • 2 mandatory books to support your learning.

Multimedia Resources

  • Access to a range of study materials via the Learning Pathways platform, including video, audio, and text-based content.

Learning Reflection and Planning

  • Complete reflection notes, written statements, personal learning plans (PLPs), 2 case studies, and maintain a coaching journal.

What is required by your line manager?

There will be regular check-ins during the programme where your Line Manager will need to support you. This includes a one-hour meeting each quarter between you, your Line Manager, and your programme supervisor.

Your Line Manager will also be requried to:

  • Help guide and support you with work-based projects and tasks related to the programme

  • Support you in spending 20% of your working week on programme activities

How much does it cost?

The cost of the programme is £5,000 and will be fully covered by the University’s apprenticeship levy.

It is worth noting that this funding is not able to cover any other costs, for example the costs of any professional registration or top up qualifications, travel or equipment if needed. Departments will need to cover the costs of 2 core text books.

There are 15 spaces on this cohort, with the opportunity to learn with others from different organisations as well as with those working at Warwick.

Applications for the Spring cohort are now open. The enrolment with the apprenticeship provider with start on the 2nd of February for a March start.
