Data Management Planning: All Disciplines
(A collaboration between LDC, The Library and Student Careers & Skills)
Overview
Planning for research is essential and planning should include data management:
- I am writing a research proposal - what does a Data Management Plan contain?
- I am starting a research project - how should I manage my research data?
- What do I do with sensitive data?
- Where should I deposit my research data at the end of a project or publication?
This session focuses on the need for and development of Data Management Plans (DMPs).
Good Research Data Management (RDM) is important for the success of a research project and is mandated by many major funding bodies, including the UK Research Councils, the Wellcome Trust, and the EU’s Horizon 2020 initiative. This session will focus on what a plan needs to contain, a look at some sample DMPs from a selection of Research Councils and a demonstration of the Digital Curation Centre’s DMP Online service.
Who should attend?
Research Active Staff (RAS) on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research & Teaching contracts, and PhD students.
Workshop Objectives:
By the end of the session attendees will have:
- Gained a greater understanding of RDM
- Learned how to create Data Management Plans for research projects
- Discovered where to find help if needed
