Introduction to Infographics

Course overview Date, venue & booking

Introduction to Infographics

This will be a one-day participative workshop, introducing you to the
fundamentals of infographic design.

Infographics provide a great way of communicating insight in reports, on social
media, in presentations, on posters. We will consider all the factors that have
an impact on the infographic you end up with, and look at the steps you need to
go through to get to a good result.

The day will involve both theory, explained with illustrated with case studies,
as well as pen and paper exercises so you can explore ideas and learn for
yourself.

While we will discuss the tools available for creating infographics the
emphasis of the day will be on coming up with a good idea for any given
situation rather than mastering the tools to create the final work.

Who should attend?

The workshop is recommended for Research, Teaching & Academic staff.
We do not except applications from postgraduates or Research Students. Students should refer to the Student Career and Skills website for details of programmes designed specifcally to meet their needs.

  • Defining a clear story

Is there anything else I need to know?
Please print out and bring with you a couple of examples of infographics that you have found to be good or bad, ideally from your field of work though it doesn't have to be your
own. This will form the basis of discussion around definitions, challenges and
aspirations.

Quotes for delegates who attended the workshop in June 2016

'I recently attended a new Introduction to Infographics 1 day training programme at the university. It was really useful in helping me to understand the importance of creating a storyboard for the effective dissemination of research findings. The trainer was very knowledgeable and shared lots of useful resources and helpful tips on how to develop one's expertise in using infographics to good effect.'
Dr Deirdre Hughe OBE, Principal Research Fellow, Institute for Employment Research (IER)
