What are the aims?

This online writing group offers a welcoming and supportive environment for academics to dedicate time to their writing projects. It is designed with sensitivity to those experiencing energy-limiting circumstances, whether due to health, disability, or caring responsibilities.

All colleagues are welcome to join and use the session as a productive space for focused writing and connection. The group offers a dedicated and supportive space for you to make progress on your writing while connecting with peers. Whether you stay for the entire session or join for part of it, you'll leave feeling more productive and connected.

What can I expect?

Friendly & Supportive Atmosphere: Participants can expect a warm and inclusive environment where they feel encouraged and supported.

Networking Opportunities: The group provides a space to connect with like-minded academics, share experiences, and build a supportive network.

Structured Time for Writing: Each session is structured to maximise writing time while allowing space for brief check-ins and networking

How do I join?

These sessions run every Tuesday 09:30–11:30, on an ongoing basis

Session Format

The programme consists of an weekly online writing group (using MS Teams) to support Teaching, Learning and Research

Each session lasts two hours. There is no pre-session work required, aside from attending the group with a specific writing goal in mind.

  • 9:30 AM – Welcome and Check-In (15 minutes): A brief introduction to the session, sharing intentions for the session, and optional personal updates.
  • 9:45 AM – Focused Writing Time (25 minutes): Participants work independently on their writing projects in a quiet, shared virtual space.
  • 10:10 AM – Break and Informal Networking (5 minutes): A chance to pause, chat informally, and connect with other participants.
  • 10:15 AM – Second Writing Block (25 minutes): Another dedicated session for focused writing.
  • 10:40 AM – Coffee and Cuppa (15 minutes):

10:55 AM – Second Writing Block (25 minutes):

    • 11:20 – Check-in
    • 11:30 – Close

    Closing the session with optional reflections, sharing progress, and discussing plans for the week ahead.
