Research Active Staff (RAS): Public Engagement - A Beginner's Guide to Public Engagement.

Overview

Aimed at those who are new to doing public engagement this session will provide an overview of what public engagement is, why it matters and equip you with some top tools and tips to make it easier. We’ll talk about different types of public engagement, finding an audience for your research, setting aims and objectives for your public engagement, and how to evaluate your activity.

Who should attend?
University of Warwick Research Active Staff (Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research & Teaching contracts) and PhD students.

We think it will be especially relevant for ECRs, however if you're an experienced researcher who's new to doing public engagement this session is also for you.

Workshop enables attendees to:

  • To explore what public engagement is, how it applies to you, and why it matters
  • To understand what is meant by “the public” and how to get them interested in what you’re doing
  • To help you set realistic expectations of yourself on what public engagement you can achieve with your research project
  • To help you set out your aims and objectives for your public engagement
  • To explore different methods of engagement and which one you should use
  • To explore potential methods of evaluating your public engagement (including what kinds of things you need to record for REF Impact purposes)

Led by:

Lucy Horrocks and Alison Phillips, Engagement Coordinators, Engagement Group
