Warwick UCU Get Involved

Locally

We have lots of opportunities to get involved with your local UCU at Warwick, from five minutes a week to roles where you can get paid time from your day job for taking them on. A list of these is below. Full training and support is provided to everyone who volunteers and no prior experience is necessary, just a passion to help your working environment to become better.

Nationally

There are also opportunities to get involved on a national level. From attending meetings and gatherings to volunteering for leadership positions, there's plenty to interest. A full range of opportunities, from one-off attendance at meetings to more sustained involvement can be found on UCU's webpages.

Caseworkers

Warwick UCU has a team of trained caseworkers. These are volunteer members who have been trained to provide support, advice and representation on employment related difficulties to any member who needs them.

We are always seeking dedicated, caring members to help others in need.

For further details, please see the Warwick UCU WebpagesLink opens in a new window.

Committee Opportunities

Our committee is responsible for overseeing the running of the branch at Warwick. We have a number of opportunities available to get involved. For more details about existing committee members and their roles, please see Meet Us (link coming soon)

Assistant Secretary (Environment): this role is for anyone passionate about the environment and the impact of decisions made at a University and national level. They bring an environmental perspective to the work done on committee and have the opportunity to get involved both at Warwick and in the wider context.

Assistant Secretary (Professional Services): this role provides a professional services perspective on the work of the committee to ensure that these staff are not the forgotten workers at the University. While the Committee contains professional services members of staff, this role is designed to bring a focus to this section of our work and ensure the voice of staff are heard at a Committee level so we can pass this through to the University.

No experience is necessary for any of these roles and full support is given. Please email Becks chair at warwickucu dot org dot uk with any questions about these roles.

Department Contacts

Your Department Contact is someone approved by members who works in your department and acts as a first point-of-contact between UCU members and the Committee. They forward issues raised to Committee or point people in the direction of what they need. They pass on communications that are specific to departments or groups of departments and encourage a sense of community and engagement within their departments. Most of our departments have a named contactLink opens in a new window, but we are seeking contacts for the following departments:

  • Foundation Studies
  • Institute of Employment Research (IER)

  • Law
  • Library
  • Psychology
  • SCAPVC (General)
  • Statistics
  • Warwick Medical School (WMS)
  • Wellbeing Support

If you're department does not have a contact, please email membership@warwickucu.org.uk and our Department Contacts Secretary will be happy to help. These roles, for anyone interested, take very little time and full support is provided. There are no compulsory meetings to attend, and it is a great way to get more involved without a significant time commitment.
