MicrobeMeter Pro reaches prototype milestone
Humane Technologies Limited (HTL) has announced that it has successfully developed a prototype for the next generation of its microbial growth measurement device, the MicrobeMeter. The new device will build upon the success of the first-generation product, which offers a compact and low-cost portable technology with wireless measurement features. The MicrobeMeter Pro is a high-resolution photometer and incubator with new features including in-built shaking and heating.
“By developing devices using innovative manufacturing methods, and IoT and other communication technologies, we make experimentation and data collection easier and more reproducible, and enable novel, quantitative training programs. Our customers include researchers in academia and industry, teachers and students in higher and primary education institutions, and ‘citizen scientists’,” says Dr Kalesh Sasidharan, director and co-founder of Humane Technologies.
“Following the successful launch of the MicrobeMeter first generation device in June this year, we saw a gap in the market for a low-cost product capable of measuring the growth of anaerobic cultures and without the need for a separate shaking incubator.”
“We worked closely with WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group) SME team, and as a result of this project we have successfully developed a prototype, which is optimised for mass production. The outcome of this project has a significant positive impact on our company, as it has brought us closer to mass producing MicrobeMeter Pro in a timely and cost-effective manner.”
Since its launch in June 2019, MicrobeMeter has sold over 50 units, and is being demonstrated at the Lab Innovations Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham on 30 and 31 October 2019.
