Costs of Sports and Societies
Getting involved in sports and societies, especially as freshers, is a great way to make the most of your university experience. However, it's important to be aware of the expenditure involved in these activities beforehand. This article will give you an overview of what you can expect regarding costs.
Sports Club Costs
If you’re interested in joining a sports club at Warwick, these are the costs you will incur. Note that these are annual costs and may vary each academic year:
- Sports Federation Fee: you have to pay £24 to become a member of the sports federation in order to access the sports clubs.
- Warwick Sport Club Pass: There are 2 types of sports clubs at Warwick- off-campus clubs, e.g. Skiing/Snowboarding, and on-campus clubs, e.g. table tennis. To access sports facilities for on-campus clubs, you’ll need the On-campus Warwick Sport Club Pass, which costs £71.50. The Off-campus Warwick Sport Club Pass costs £32.
- Sports Club joining fee: £6 per sports club.
Therefore, the total cost to join an on-campus sports club is approximately £101.50 for this year and an off-campus club is £62. If you have paid the Sports Federation Fee and purchased the correct club pass, joining new clubs which have the same type as your club pass (on-campus/off-campus) will set you back another £6 per club. Individual clubs may also have additional fees for specific activities.
Societies Costs
The costs to join a society are:
- Societies Federation Fee: This fee gives you access to join as many societies as you like throughout the academic year and is set at £16 for the year.
- Individual Society joining fees: While many societies will be free to join after paying the Societies Federation Fee, some also have additional joining fees. E.g. Bubble Tea Society has a membership fee of £2.50 which you must pay on top of the £16.
Some societies may also charge additional fees for specific events, and trips, but these are typically optional.
Getting involved in sports and societies is a fantastic way to make friends and gain new skills at university. With knowledge of these costs, you can plan ahead and decide which of the numerous clubs and societies you want to get involved in.
