Ingredients

  • 600g beef/lamb/vegetarian mince
  • 2 onions
  • 1 tablespoon of mild curry powder
  • 1 slice of white bread (crusts removed)
  • 250ml milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • Salt
  • 1 tbsp tumeric
  • 25ml vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 handful of raisins
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 6 flaked almonds
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 medium eggs
  • Vegetable oil

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C
  2. Heat a splash of vegetable oil and add the diced onions to the pan. Sprinkle some salt on the onions and soften them in the hot oil.
  3. Once the onions are soft, add your chosen mince and fry until cooked.
  4. Soak the slice of bread in a little of the milk and mash with a fork.
  5. Mix the mince, fried onions, one of the eggs, the mashed bread, raisins, almonds, turmeric, salt, sugar, black pepper and vinegar/lemon juice together and add to an ovenproof dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat the second egg, curry powder and remaining milk. Pour this egg mix over the mince mix. Add the bay leaves to the top of the egg mix.
  7. Bake the dish in the oven for one hour until the egg is set.
