Cooking Basics - Omelette
How to make an omelette
Omelettes make a great breakfast, lunch or dinner
Taste: Simplicity: Cost:
Ingredients
- 2 medium eggs
- Grated cheese
- Oil
- Cooked fillings of choice (e.g. ham)
- Salt and pepper
Method
- Crack the two eggs into your jug or bowl. Make sure to wash your hands after dealing with raw egg!
- Add a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Whisk the eggs with a fork (or whisk) until it is nice and smooth.
- Pour a tablespoon of oil into your frying pan and heat it up on a medium heat.
- Pour in your egg mixture, and roll the mixture around by tilting the pan. The more you spread the mixture, the thinner (but larger) the omelette will be!
- While the mixture is still runny, add the grated cheese all over.
- Add your filings to one side of the omelette - doing this makes it easier to fold!
- Use a spatula to test the sides. If the edges are crisping up, that means it is cooking well.
- Once the omelette is no longer stuck to the pan, fold it in half using the spatula.
- When it is cooked through, slide it onto a plate and serve! You can tell it's cooked once there is no bubbling or runny egg in the centre.
