Ingredients

  • 225g salted butter (plus extra for greasing)
  • 450g caster sugar
  • 150g dark chocolate
  • 5 eggs
  • 110g plain flour
  • 55g cocoa powder (chocolate Nesquik powder works too!)
  • Sugar-coated candies (e.g. M&M's or Smarties)
  • White chocolate buttons
  • Milk chocolate buttons

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180C. Grease your baking dish with some butter on a kitchen towel and line the dish with greaseproof paper.

  2. Melt the butter in the microwave for approximately 60 seconds or until it has melted. Combine the butter and sugar until a pale yellow, gritty paste forms.

  3. Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave with a splash of water to prevent burning. Once the chocolate has melted, add it to the sugar butter paste and mix.

  4. Add the 5 eggs to the chocolate butter mixture and combine.

  5. Mix in the dry ingredients (flour and cocoa powder), and once the mixture is fully combined, spoon it into the dish. Place red noses (red coated chocolate candies) on top of the brownie mix. Bake for 20 minutes.

  6. After baking for 20 minutes, remove the dish and carefully add 2 eyes (white chocolate buttons and brown sugar-coated chocolate candies) for every red nose (see picture above). Return the baking dish to the oven for an additional 15 minutes.

  7. Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for 30 minutes. Let the brownie sponge finish cooking with the residual heat from the oven and cool. Slice the brownie sponge into squares.

  8. Enjoy. Try to store in an air-tight container.
