Ingredients

  • 500g lamb mince
  • Mashed potatoes
  • 3 large carrots - chopped into small pieces
  • 1 cup of frozen peas
  • Beef or lamb stock cube
  • Olive oil
  • Seasoning: garlic powder, mixed herbs, onion power, paprika, salt and pepper
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Optional: Red wine
  • 1 large onion - diced

Method

  1. Prepare your mashed potatoes.
  2. Add the diced onion to a frying pan on medium heat with a teaspoon of olive oil and fry this until the onion is translucent.

  3. Add the meat and fry this until it has browned.

  4. Add the carrots and 1 cup of frozen peas and stir these into the meat.

  5. Immediately add a teaspoon of each of these: garlic powder, mixed herbs, onion powder, and paprika, and add salt and pepper to taste. Also, add a few splashes of Worcestershire sauce and mix.

  6. Now add your stock cube to the pan and add a few tablespoons of water as you want your mince to have a delicious gravy. If you're using red wine, add a splash now.

  7. Reduce the heat to low, add a lid, and leave this to simmer until your potatoes are done boiling.

  8. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees.

  9. Pour your mince into your oven-safe dish and make sure it is spread evenly along the bottom of the dish. Now spoon your mash in small blobs evenly across the top of the mince.

  10. Take a fork and slowly pull the mashed potatoes until it covers the mince with an even layer of potato across the top of the mince with no gaps (see the accompanying picture for an example of how it should look).

  11. Place the dish into the oven that is now fully preheated and leave it there for approximately 25-30 minutes until the top of the pie has formed a delicious crust.

  12. Remove from the oven, dish up and enjoy with whatever sides you desire!
