Ingredients
- Pasta
- Olive oil
- 1 medium onion - diced
- 500g beef mince
- 1 can chopped tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons of tomato puree
- Mushrooms - sliced
- 2 cloves of garlic - minced
- 1 beef stock cube
- Seasoning: mixed herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper and sugar
- Optional: Worchestershire sauce
Method
-
To start, fill up a saucepan with water and add a pinch of salt and set on high heat. Leave this to come to a boil while preparing the mince, which will be used later for the pasta. (Check out our Cooking Basics- Pasta if you need help).
-
After the water is set to boil, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan and put onto a medium heat
- Add the diced onion into the oil and fry until it becomes translucent
- Add your minced beef into the pan and fry off until it has turned brown.
- Add the can of chopped tomatoes and 2 tablespoons of tomato puree to the mince and stir to combine.
- Add the garlic, beef stock cube and one teaspoon of the following seasonings: mixed herbs, garlic powder, onion powder and sugar. Add sal and pepper to taste. If you're using Worchestershire sauce, add a splash now. Mix everything.
- Add some sliced mushrooms, as many as you desire (or none if you don't like them!)
- Lower the temperature to low heat and cover with a lid. Leave to simmer for at least 15 minutes (while you're cooking your pasta).
- The pot of water should now be at a rolling boil. Add your desired amount of pasta and boil as per the packet instructions (but it is usually 10-12 minutes).
- Once your pasta is cooked, remove it from the heat and drain it.
- Now you're ready to serve! Add cheese to the top if you like, and enjoy!
