Cooking Basics - Tomato Sauce
How to make a tomato sauce
This basic tomato sauce could be used with pasta or as a pizza base to make a quick and easy meal.
Taste: Simplicity: Cost:
Ingredients
- 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
- Diced onion
- Oil
- 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
- Seasonings (I used garlic granules, basil and oregano)
- Salt and Pepper
Method
-
Heat the oil in the saucepan on a medium heat.
- Add in your diced onion.
- After two minutes, add the tin of chopped tomatoes. If you want a smoother sauce, use tomato passata instead.
- Add salt, pepper and any seasonings (I used garlic granules, basil and oregano). If you want some spice, use chilli flakes as well!
- Add in the sugar and mix well.
- Leave the sauce to simmer for five minutes.
- If you're saving it for another day, place it in a bowl with a lid and let it cool before refrigerating. If not, it's ready to serve!
