23 Dec 2023 - Update on Skilled Worker route and other immigration categories
This is an update following on from the previous news item where the UK government confirmed salary discounts for those towards the start of their careers will still exist.
A UK government factsheetLink opens in a new window was issued on 21 Dec 2023 which gives further details on net migration measures. Below are some of the key points taken from the factsheet.
Skilled worker route:
Those already on the Skilled Work Route or have made visa application before the rules change, will not be subject to the new GBP 38,700 salary threshold when they change employment, extend their status, or settle in the UK.
Sponsor a spouse / partner:
It has been confirmed (for new applications) that the minimum income normally required to sponsor someone for a spouse/partner visa will rise in stages from £18,600 to £29,000 in spring 2024 and then ultimately around £38,700.
Those who already have a family visa within the five-year partner route, or who apply before the minimum income threshold is raised, will continue to have their applications assessed against the current income requirement and will not be required to meet the increased threshold.
Graduate Route
The Home Office will commission the MAC to review the graduate route this month but expect this to continue ‘until late 2024’. The MAC will prioritise looking at the Immigration Salary List.
Shortage Occupation List
The MAC will prioritise considering a new ‘Immigration Salary List’ for jobs, to replace the Shortage Occupation List (SOL). The SOL will be abolished when other salary threshold changes are made.
