Changes to the immigration rules from 09 April 2025
Expired BRPs can be used until 01 June 2025
This is not a change to the immigration rules, but for information, the government confirmed that BRPs that expired on 31 December 2024 can still be used until 01 June 2025 as evidence of permission and to enter the UK as long as you still have a valid visa.
Trinidad and Tobago added to the Visa National list
Nationals of Trinidad and Tobago will now be required to obtain entry clearance before travelling to the UK. Previously, they were able to seek permission to enter after arriving in the UK, and they were able to travel after obtaining an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). This is no longer an option.
PhD students on a Student Visa
For Student Visa applications made after 09 April 2025 , by PhD students who are moving with their academic supervisor to Warwick, their new university, can now meet the academic progression requirements to submit a permission to stay application in the UK. Previously, they were not able to meet academic progression requirements and had to make a new visa application outside the UK.
Correcting incorrect visa conditions and/or the length of permission
If there are errors on the visa conditions or length following a visa application submitted in the UK, these were required to be corrected through Administrative Review. This is no longer the case and all corrections should follow the standard error correction process on the government website.
Administrative Review
Applicants who challenge visa refusals of a permission to stay application (visa application submitted in the UK) will not be able to make an Administrative Review application outside the UK.
An application for Administrative Review will be invalidated if a visa application is made while the Administrative Review application is pending.
