Helena Ratcliffe Wins Biggest Sustainable Impact Award

As Warwick Students' Union's Ethics and Environment Officer, Helena has played a leading role in engaging students with sustainability and empowering them to take positive environmental action at the University of Warwick.
Her efforts to connect sustainability initiatives with the student community earned her the SU Biggest Sustainable Impact Award.

A passionate advocate for climate action, Helena has helped the University become more a more sustainable and more inclusive space through practical, accessible and community-focused initiatives. One of her key contributions has been supporting the Community Fridge Link opens in a new windowscheme, which helps reduce food waste while making surplus food available to students and the wider Warwick community.

Helena has also worked with the Sustainability ForumLink opens in a new window and a range of student societies to deliver SU Green Week 2026Link opens in a new window activities, encouraging students from across campus to learn about sustainability and get involved in environmental action.

Alongside promoting events and initiatives, Helena has encouraged students to think more deeply about their own environmental impact, including raising awareness of the carbon footprint associated with AI use. She has also championed opportunities such as the Sustainability FundLink opens in a new window, helping more students discover ways to make a difference.

Through her enthusiasm, leadership and commitment to student engagement, Helena has helped bring sustainability closer to everyday student life. Her work demonstrates the significant impact students can have in creating a more sustainable campus and inspiring positive change across the Warwick community.
