Confidential Waste

The Confidential Paper Waste Disposal process across the University is designed to work in harmony with the principles found in the University’s Information Handling PolicyLink opens in a new window and ensures compliance with current legislation and the University’s commitment to Data ProtectionLink opens in a new window compliance

This involves using secure, lockable cabinets in office areas to dispose of Confidential Waste which is then collected by Waste & Recycling Team. The University approved contractor is ShredPro. They collect confidential waste on a schedule frequency and shreds it on site with a specialised vehicle. Estates - Waste & Recycling Services manages the service contract.

How to organise an Ad-hoc collection?

  • Confidential bags for Ad-hoc collections will be provided on request via the Estates Service DeskLink opens in a new window.
  • Filled confidential waste bags must be stored securely by the department and handed to Waste & Recycling Department when they make the scheduled collection from the Confidential Waste cabinets for your department.

Departments who use shredders to destruct their confidential waste are still be able to do so and the shredded paper will continue to be collected via the general office paper waste stream.

The departments will be able to request a confidential waste console and further Ad-hoc collections via the Estates Service DeskLink opens in a new window.

Please note when departments request additional bin and/or bags, it is the departments' responsibility to keep waste secure and locked due to GDPR regulations.


How to retrieve a document from the lockable cabinet?

If you have disposed of a document in error, please contact Estates Service DeskLink opens in a new windowor alternatively wasteandrecycling@warwick.ac.uk. The university Information and Data Compliance team will arrange retrieval of documents within 24 hours.
