About IPBES

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is an independent body established to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services.

It was established in 2012 by 94 Governments and now has almost 150 member States. A large number of organisations and groups participate in the formal IPBES process as 'observers', including representatives of academic and research institutions, indigenous and local communities and the private sector.

IPBES 12

IPBES 12 is the twelfth Plenary meeting of IPBES. The Plenary is the decision-making body of IPBES. Plenary sessions bring together representatives of the IPBES member Governments, on a roughly annual basis, to make decisions about the IPBES work programme, budget and other key strategic and operational aspects of the platform.

One of the main agenda items at IPBES Plenary sessions is the approval of the Summary for Policymakers for IPBES scientific assessments, with a key focus of IPBES 12 being the 'Business and Biodiversity' assessment.

Participate in IPBES 12

The University of Warwick has been granted observer status to IPBES 12, which enables us to form a delegation. A limited number of observer badges will be made available.

This Expression of Interest (EoI) process is open to individuals at Warwick who wish to apply to be included in this delegation.

Registration is free. Applicants attending in person are responsible for covering all associated costs (including travel, accommodation, subsistence etc.). Virtual attendance at IPBES 12 will also be an option for those not able to travel.

Participation is contingent upon compliance with the IPBES 12 registration process and University of Warwick protocols.

Who can apply?

We invite University of Warwick researchers, academics, professional services staff, and students whose work intersects with nature, biodiversity, human wellbeing and environmental policy to apply. We particularly encourage EoI from individuals whose work aligns with the current and future work programmes of IPBES.
