RAWKUS: Changing negative waste into positive action
During this summer volunteers gathered together as RAWKUS to visit halls during the June move out and the post graduate move out in September.
During these two collections they collected 8 tonnes of food surplus and other items. This food was donated to local foodbanks and charities and the other items such as kitchen wear was stored over the summer.
This collection was then moved to the Arts Centre for a ‘Pay as you Feel’ event during the arrivals weekend which saw huge support from new students, returning students and staff alike.
We would like to give a massive Thank You to all who helped and supported these collections and sale which raised a fantastic total of £3596.20.
This was recently donated to Action 21 who have informed us that these funds will go towards the skill sharing activities they sponsor including a regular free craft club held at the local library.
RAWKUS are always in need of more volunteers to prevent as much food and usable items from going to waste as possible. If you are interested in joining a collection during March, June or September please sign up here.
