Sun and Litter Pickers Out!

We had our first springtime litter pick in March, in absolutely glorious sunshine, which made the activity even more enjoyable than usual.

Our nature loving volunteers collected 20.2 kg litter around the Bluebell and Rootes Residences, ensuring wildlife busily looking for food after the long winter have a safer environment to forage in.

Thanks to all who participated, even those who are not on the group photo!

There has also been a lovely article published about our initiative, which you can read hereLink opens in a new window.

Who are the Warwick Wombles?
The award-winning Wednesday Warwick Wombles was first launched in January 2023 and has since grown into a diverse community of staff and student volunteers carrying out monthly lunchtime litter picks across campus. It's run in collaboration between the Energy & Sustainability and Waste & Recycling teams.

Biodiversity on campus
We deliver progress against our Sustainability Strategy goal to 'realise ecology and biodiversity net gain' through collaborative partnerships to identify and monitor biodiversity on campus, and implement habitat creation and enhancement projects. We also provide opportunities to enable students and staff to engage with our work and are starting to assess our impact on biodiversity off campus.
