Reimagine, Redesign, Regenerate: Becoming Circular Workshop Series

Becoming Circular is a four-part interactive workshop series designed to engage university students in rethinking how we live, consume, and innovate through the lens of the circular economy. The most recent series ran from January to March 2025 and covered a range of topics including fashion, food systems, technology, and greenwashing. Each session encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and practical action to challenge the current system and build a more sustainable, regenerative future.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Circular Economy
Students discovered the core principles of circular economy, explored innovative strategies for eliminating waste, and learned how to create systems that benefit communities and the environment. The session was led by Evelin Sanderson-Nichols (Sustainability Coordinator, Energy and Sustainability team).

Workshop 2: Fast Fashion and Greenwashing

Students uncovered the truth about fast fashion’s impact on people and planet, and learned how to spot greenwashing practices in today’s marketplace. The session was led by Dr jane Webb (Head of Cross-faculty Studies).

Workshop 3: Food and the Advertising Industry

Students dived into the world of ultra-processed foods and the powerful branding tactics that shape our consumption. Gained insights into building a healthier, more sustainable and circular food culture. The session was delivered by Hayley Lambert (Sustainability Champion - Circular Economy, Energy and Sustainability team).

Workshop 4: Mindful Consumption and Tech

Students examined the role of technology in our consumption habits and explored ways to adopt mindful practices that foster sustainability in our tech-driven lives. The session was delivered by Chris Wood (Head of Portfolio, IDG) and Hayley Lambert (Sustainability Champion - Circular Economy, Energy and Sustainability team).
