AI, Digital and Smart Applications
The digital revolution has dramatically changed our world, and will continue to do so in ways we cannot yet imagine. As a result, digital technology is having to evolve rapidly, creating a turbulent research landscape, in which even the language used to describe the technology struggles to keep up.
People across the globe are more connected than ever before. The way we live our lives is captured in huge data sets; decisions can be made by machines faster, and based on far more information, than the human brain can process; processes of discovery, design, manufacture, and operation can be fully automated.
These developments have led to many challenges and research opportunities in the field of AI, Digital and Smart applications, as technology is compelled to adapt and transform at an unforgiving pace.
Universities can be at the heart of this transformation – from the most basic data science, through development of smart applications, to interpretation of data, and consideration of ethical and policy implications.
Our research
We have extensive expertise in algorithm development, computational modelling, autonomous systems, and data-intensive big science research, with applications covering healthcare, smart manufacturing, and digital chemistry.
Warwick is also a founding member of the Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. The Institute was established to:
- Undertake world-class research in data science and artificial intelligence
- Apply its research to real-world problems
- Drive economic impact and societal good
- Lead the training of a new generation of scientists
- Shape the public conversation around data
Research at Warwick enhances, and is enhanced by, our relationship with the Alan Turing Institute, forging interdisciplinary links across departments and between institutes with expertise in data science.
