Science and Engineering Precinct

Science and Engineering Precinct

Our Science and Engineering Precinct development is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine our spaces by investing in new facilities, repurposing existing buildings, and revitalising the landscape and public realm.

We aspire to create a dynamic environment for our education and research to flourish, embodying our aspiration for social inclusion, enabling us to embrace opportunities for innovation, facilitating our contribution as a regional leader, and exemplifying internationalisation through intercultural experiences and opportunities.

The Precinct will offer outstanding learning and research facilities, as well as spaces for innovation, collaboration, and public engagement. This will transform our capabilities in these key areas of activity, and enable us to further develop and enhance our relationships with our external partners. It will also provide many opportunities to showcase our activities and achievements and connect people through the inclusion of social spaces.

A cornerstone of the £425m development is the creation of a new state-of-the-art Science and Engineering Building, which will house specialist research and teaching facilities for the Departments of Chemistry and Physics, and the School of Engineering. There will also be spaces available for other departments in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine (SEM) to use.
