Academic strengths

Our Global Research Priorities programme provides collaborative opportunities across the University and is a focus for multidisciplinary research in 10 key areas of international significance, from food security and sustainable cities to energy and innovative manufacturing. By supporting cross-departmental collaboration and facilitating University-wide interaction in a range of subject areas, the programme enables researchers to work together across departmental and disciplinary boundaries, thereby responding through research to global challenges.

Warwick Scientific Services

Warwick Scientific Services (WSS) is a centre of excellence based at University of Warwick, providing business and academic clients access to Warwick's wide scientific resources. WSS delivers cutting-edge world class scientific services, technical measurement solutions, innovative translational research, and knowledge and training services to businesses that could benefit from expertise and instrumentation in these areas:

  • Energy Efficiency sector
  • Life Sciences sector (Biotechnology and Biomedical)
  • Materials sector
  • High Performance Computing
  • Mechanical sector (in partnership with Warwick Manufacturing Group).

Warwick Scientific Services
WMG

Manufacturing

WMG works in collaboration with organisations of all sizes across many industry sectors. This includes major multi-partner research projects to provide novel and practical solutions to industry challenges, enabling access to cutting edge technology through research testing services, or the company sponsorship of a Doctoral research student to investigate a real challenge that a business or industry sector is facing today or in the future. We carry out applied research under the broad themes of Design, Materials, Manufacturing, Systems and Business across sectors include automotive, aerospace and defence, digital, construction, energy and utilities, finance, food and drink, healthcare, IT, pharmaceutical, and rail.

Three major programmes through which we deliver research and knowledge transfer are: the WMG centre High Value Manufacturing Catapult, addressing issues around low carbon mobility and energy innovation; the Institute of Digital Healthcare, seeking to improve people’s health and wellbeing through the development, evaluation and implementation of innovative digital technologies; and our SME Innovation Programme, which has worked with over 12,000 SMEs to enable businesses to innovate and bring user focused products to market.

Medical

At Warwick Medical School, working with businesses to advance medical innovation is at the heart of our knowledge-transfer activities. WMS academics engage in a range of collaborative activities with both large and small businesses in research and education to help find solutions, move new products to commercialisation, and provide real patient benefit in some of the world’s biggest health challenges. Some of our current projects include working on advancing medical technologies in the UK and abroad with GE Healthcare, developing novel functional foods with Unilever, and improving diabetes research and education with Novo Nordisk.
