New Hearthstone league founded by Warwick students

Staffordshire University won the first UK University Hearthstone League today as the live finals played out here at the Centre. Staffs students Carnage and Paradox, who is also a UK Hearthstone player for Vexed, beat Warwick Ultrasaurs’ Harry Boyce and Eamon Lear in the final 3-1. Prizes for the top three teams included hoodies and shirts of choice from the official Hearthstone merch store, HyperX gaming mice and mouse mats and an official Hearthstone insulated water bottle. These prizes were made possible from the league’s sponsors, HyperX and BowenBros LTD.

Warwick student wins Women in Games global award

Women in Games has announced the winners of their annual global awards, celebrating women’s achievements in gaming and esports.

Anisah “Geomancy” Munim, currently in her fourth year of studying French and German at the University of Warwick, won the award for “University or College Student Portfolio” with 5 other recipients from other universities and colleges. Responding to the news on Twitter, Anisah thanked the grassroots esports community for helping her grow within the scene whilst still being a student, with special thanks given to the NUEL (National University Esports League) and Warwick Esports. Her portfolio included her current role as the product manager for NUEL, as well as previous roles as team manager for pro team.

Warwick Esports launches The Pack for greater representation

Warwick Esports, the University of Warwick’s esports society, has launched its new community, The Pack, open exclusively to women and non-binary individuals. The community is based out of this Discord server and ‘will have a more relaxed approach to the other servers run by the society’.

It’s open to all women and non-binary individuals who want to join, not just students or those at the university. The Pack will act as a safe environment for members to chat with like-minded individuals, run events like game nights, competitions and team-building exercises. It will also act as a staging ground for members to get connections with female and non-binary experts in the industry.

Warwick invests £275,000 in new esports centre and seeks backers

The University of Warwick has announced that is investing £275,000 of its own earned income into establishing a new flexible esports centre to be located at the heart of Warwick campus. It will operate alongside new facilities to stimulate innovation in the, in the newly named ‘Junction’ facility. This announcement follows soon after the news, just last month, that the University of Warwick had retained its title as UK Esports University of the Year, winning the award for a third successive year.
