Guidance on Collaborative Doctoral Awards
M4C Collaborative Doctoral Award
CDAs are co-designed between an M4C university and an external partner organisation. CDAs offer a project with established research aims, responding to particular needs in the cultural, creative and heritage sectors. The supervisory teams are pre-established and are made up of academics from a Midlands4Cities university and a member of the external partner organisation.
A Collaborative Doctoral Award allows you to:
- produce a quality thesis under expert academic and partner supervision
- gain first-hand experience of partner organisations outside the university environment
- enhance employability and skills

The M4C Scholarship provides successful candidates with 4 years FT (48 months) or 6 years 8 months PT (80 months) scholarship which consists of:
- Stipend in line with UKRI stipend rate, paid in monthly amounts
- Academic Fee covered for UK fee level - if you are a successful International Student, then UoW will cover the difference between the UK and International fee level
Please note that the scholarship is provided for the agreed length, as per your M4C Offer Letter. This means that if you are unable to submit your thesis by the end of your funded period (last stipend payment) then the remaining months of your UoW registration and M4C Expected Submission Period remain unfunded.
It is not possible to extend your funding period on a CDA as you are already being funded for the maximum duration.
