The Magic Key of RCA
The Magic Key of RCA was a weekly hour-long radio show broadcast on NBC between September 1935 and September 1939. It was a variety show featuring a symphony orchestra (usually an early version of what became the NBC Symphony Orchestra, but occasionally a guest orchestra appears), guest artists including Metropolitan Opera stars (such as Kirsten Flagstad and Lauritz Melchior), solo instrumentalists (such as Efrem Zimbalist and Ignace Paderewski), dance and swing bands (such as Ray Noble, Fats Waller and Tommy Dorsey), comedy sketches and extracts from plays. The programme was also a showcase for NBC's international links with regular shortwave relays from around the world. The vast majority of the 204 programmes survive in the Library of Congress and this page is intended to be an inventory of what was broadcast based on hearing the actual show.
