Course Structure

Autumn term:

  • Research Methods - we will automatically allocate you to this so you do not need to apply
  • 2 x 30 CAT modules, each assessed by coursework - 6,000 word essay

 Spring term:

  • 2 x 30 CAT modules, assessed by coursework - each assessed by coursework - 6,000 word essay

 Spring/Summer terms:

  • 60 CATS - 16,000 word dissertation – EN956 - we will automatically allocate you to this, so you do not need to apply

Core Module - Any Critical Theory module

From 2019-2020 choose a module from the following list:

Term 1 modules:

  • Gothic
  • Fundamentals of World Literature
  • Drama and Performance Theory
  • World Literature and the Anthropocene
  • Critical Theory Today

Term 2 modules:

  • Postcolonial Theory
  • Petrofiction: Studies in World Literature
  • Critical Theory, Culture, Resistance

Can take one 30 CATS module from outside of the department, including the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL).
