English Literature, English Literature and Theatre Studies, English & History and English Literature and Creative Writing students registered on first year modules in the English Department are required to attend this meeting.
9am – 9.25am: Introduction to the First Year (John West):
- The Undergraduate Handbook
- Structure of first year: modules, lectures, and seminars
- Attendance, and Monitoring Points
- Methods of assessment
- Living on campus
9.25am - 9.35am: ’Surviving the First Year’: some practical advice on surviving (and enjoying) the first year from some of your peers in the department.
9.35am - 9.50am: Students Union Officer: reps from the Students Union will talk about its work and introduce you to the role of the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC).
9.50am - 10am: Lit Soc: members of the Lit Soc exec will introduce the Society and how to get involved.
10am – 10.10am: Academic Writing Sessions (Rochelle Sibley): introducing the Academic Writing sessions that will help you with your research and writing at university level.
10.10am - 10.30am: Introduction to the Library (Kate Courage): a session introducing you to the library resources available to help you in your study.
10.30am - 10.40am: Transformations
10.40am - 10. 45am: Questions.
END (we will aim to end by 10.45am to give English Literature and Creative Writing and English and Theatre students time to walk to their inductions at Millburn House and Ramphal respectively).
