Dr Elfed Huw Price - New Associate Member of the CHM

The Centre is pleased to announce that Dr Elfed Huw Price will now be joining the Centre as an Associate Member.

Elfed Huw Price is a historian of medicine with interests in neuroscience. From 1998 to 2006 Dr Price was based at the University of Oxford. In his doctoral thesis, “The Emergence of the Doctrine of the ‘Sentient Brain’ in Britain, 1650-1850,” he explored the reasons for the rise of brain-based theories of mind to the status of mainstream medical orthodoxy. After a year working on the ILA Global Project for the History of Leprosy, and a semester lecturing on the History of Medicine at the University of Southampton, Dr Price joined Oxford University Press in 2008, where he is now Publisher responsible for 26 Social Sciences, Linguistics and Philosophy journals. He continues to pursue his own work during the twilight hours and his current research focuses on the theories of mind and body expounded by the Victorian polymath, George Henry Lewes.

The Centre is delighted to welcome Huw and looks forward to future collaboration.
