Pulling the Plug?: Selections from the Oral History Interviews
The project carried out 27 oral interviews with people associated with the Pump Rooms. These included former staff, patients and local medical practitioners. The aim of the project was to obtain a permanent record of what it was like to work or be treated at the Pump Rooms, and to investigate the reasons for its closure in 1990. The extracts presented here have been selected in order to provide a glimpse of the nature of the spa therapy provided at the Pump Rooms from the mid-1960s until 1990 and to give a brief indication of some of the issues surrounding its closure. The full transcripts of each interview will be made available in the near future.
