Field Trip to the National Collections Centre

We will be visiting the National Collections Centre (NCC) on Tuesday, 12 March 2024 from 9am to 6pm.

Based at the Science and Innovation Park in Swindon, Wiltshire, the National Collections Centre is currently home to over 35,000 historic objects from the Science Museum Group Collection. Below is an outline of what the day will involve.

*This trip is for PGT, PGR and Early Career Researchers only. If you are an undergraduate and would like to come, then please contact with your reasons why.

A rough outline for the day:

9:00 am Departure from Bluebell Coach Park to RAF Wroughton.

11am Arrival with introduction to the site & Health and Safety brief

11:30am Tour of Building ONE, to cover Science Museum Group (SMG) collections highlights, documentation processes, variety of roles which go into collections care

12:45pm Catch minibus down to Library & Archive for lunch (please bring your own packed lunch)

1:30pm Return to Building ONE for afternoon activity. (potentially studying some objects as evidence for research)

3:00pm - Discussion about research support available

3:30pm - Departure from Wroughton to return to Bluebell Coach Park.
