Der Superlativ

 

• In English we add -est to adjectives, or we use the word most.

For example: Karen is the tallest girl in the class.

Anna is the most intelligent girl in class.

• In German we only use the first method, we add -st oder -est.

For example: Karen ist das lustigste Mädchen in der Klasse.

Anna ist das intelligenteste Mädchen in der Klasse.

• Often the superlative does not precede a noun, it comes elsewhere in the sentence. Then the usual form is am -sten.

For example: Mein Auto ist schnell, dein Auto ist schneller und sein Auto ist

 am schnellsten.
