Centre appoints new staff member

Dr David Wright will join the Centre for Cultural Policy Studies in September 2009. He will bring new strengths to the Centre's research and teaching. He will also provide a link to colleagues in the Sociology Department's research group on Culture, Media and Representation, and to researchers at Open University and University of Leeds.

David's research interests are in the sociology of culture, the cultural industries, popular culture and cultural policy. He is currently developing research projects on taste, industry and policy in the contemporary book industry and on cultural taste, especially the notion of 'omnivorousness' and its relation to the changing cultural industries.

David brings a wealth of experience as well as new sociological perspectives to the Centre's research culture. In particular he will contribute to the Centre's research in creative and media industries and cultural consumption. He will initially contribute to teaching on the MA in International Design and Communication Management, but will also be developing new modules in the year ahead. We also expect David to make a valuable contribution to research supervision, support and guidance, for both our MA and PhD students.
