I am an Assistant Professor and media practitioner with over 20 years of experience in media productions and university education. My professional and practice work includes television documentaries, sports programming, award-winning short films, and feature film writing. I also have extensive experience developing film and media projects with community organisations, corporate companies, arts bodies, and universities. Over my 20 years as a media professional, I have taught and worked with young adults in a wide range of formal and informal educational settings, developing their filmmaking, media production skills, and professional practice. My extensive teaching skills have been honed by my continued work as a successful freelance practitioner and as an artistic and managing director.

Research Interests:

My research has focused on the notion of cultural democracy and cultural pluralism and the application of these ideas and theories to community and socially engaged arts practice. I am currently engaged in a PhD by Practice, in which I will explore these concepts through the production of several research papers and accompanying media artefacts.

In 2022, I directed 'Cod's Head Culture for the Poor,' a 60-minute documentary examining the British Community Arts Movement and its relationship with Cultural Democracy. In 2024, I directed 'The Life and Intercultural Work of Rachel Davis Dubois.' Currently, in 2025, I am engaged in field research, exploring Dubois's use of group conversation as a way to engage with community arts. This research will result in a documentary, 'You, Me and Cultural Democracy,' set for completion in February 2026.

Teaching and supervision:

I am the strand leader for media practice in the 'Media and Creative Industries' degree. MCI was ranked No. 1 in The Guardian's best universities in the UK for 2023 and 2024. I am the module convenor for the following modules.
